  • Vanilla extract
  • Optional: Ground cinnamon

  • Whisk: To thoroughly combine the cream mixture.
  • Electric Mixer: Useful for whipping the cream mixture to achieve a fluffy, cloud-like consistency.
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons: For accurately measuring the ingredients.
  • Knife: For slicing the strawberries.
  • Cutting Board: To provide a surface for slicing the strawberries.
  • Serving Cups or Bowls: To assemble and serve the dessert.
  • Spatula or Spoon: To help layer the strawberries and cream mixture.

Chef Secrets

  • Select the Best Strawberries: Use ripe, fragrant strawberries for maximum sweetness and flavor.
  • Enhance Creaminess: Add a dollop of mascarpone or crème fraîche for a richer texture.
  • Flavor Infusions: Incorporate a teaspoon of ground cinnamon or use a vanilla bean instead of extract for a deeper flavor.
  • Chill Ingredients: Cool your cream ingredients and tools before mixing to help achieve a smoother, thicker cream.
  • Layering Technique: Arrange strawberry slices upright against the sides of clear serving cups for an attractive presentation.
  • Garnish: Top with fresh mint leaves, powdered sugar, or edible flowers to enhance visual appeal and flavor.
  • Adjust Sweetness: Vary the amount of sweetened condensed milk based on your preferred sweetness level.
  • Experiment with Fruits: Try using other fruits like fresh peaches or mixed berries to customize the dish to your taste.

How to Make

  • Strawberry Prep: Wash and slice the strawberries into thin disks or chunky jewels, depending on your preference.
  • Dream Cream Mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, heavy cream, vanilla, and optional ingredients until well combined.
  • Whip It Up: Use an electric mixer on medium speed to whip the mixture for about two minutes, until it achieves a fluffy, cloud-like consistency.
  • Layer and Serve: In a serving cup or bowl, alternate layers of strawberry slices and cream mixture. Start with strawberries and end with a generous layer of cream. Garnish with whipped cream and fresh mint leaves for a refreshing finish.

Feel free to adapt the ingredients based on availability at your local grocery store or personal taste preferences. If strawberries aren’t available, thawed frozen berries or any fresh fruit, like peaches, or try cantaloupe, fresh pineapple, or apples, grapes, oranges, and bananas; just about anything you have on hand will beautifully compliment the sweetened cream sauce.

Fresas Con Crema is more than just an easy dessert recipe—it's a celebration of simple ingredients coming together to create something unexpectedly wonderful. Try it once, and it’s sure to become a staple dessert, providing the perfect ending to any Mexican meal or simply a cool treat on a warm day.
