About Jennifer Cooks
I’m Jennifer Locklin, author and owner of Jennifer Cooks. I am a trained chef and passionate about good food, cooking for family and friends, and creating recipes that form lasting memories from one generation to the next.
I attended culinary school at The Art Institute of Houston. I worked in several restaurants and later became a caterer and specialized in wedding and birthday cakes for a while. As my kids got busier in school and other activities, and as my husband’s business grew, I stepped out of cooking and baking professionally and started blogging.
Long before I became a chef, I would cook alongside my mom and Czech grandmother, who both gave me great experience in understanding the basics of cooking as well as exploring my creativity in the kitchen. I think spending time in the kitchen with a good cook is priceless and teaches you all of the nuances of creating good food. For me, cooking is more than just a recipe with a list of ingredients and steps; it’s an art and an act of love for those you are feeding.
Family recipes are a cherished treasure of mine and that’s the main reason I started this blog back in 2009. Cooking and creating recipes are my true passion and this blog is the place I share those experiences and tested recipes with the world.
You’ll find a little bit of everything from my personal adventures in the kitchen to many loved family recipes.
Do you know how to cook? If not, I encourage you to start learning. Everyone can cook; you just have to decide that you’re willing to try. Will you mess up? Absolutely! I do all of the time and it’s frustrating and sometimes embarrassing, but in the end I learn something new, and that’s what makes cooking an adventure, a never-ending learning experience. Heck, Julia Child didn’t learn to cook until she was almost 40 and didn’t host her popular show until she was 50!
If you know how to cook, but find it a chore I want to inspire you get creative and enjoy the experience.
I hope you find inspiration for cooking and creating here, and remember to breathe in the aroma, savor the flavor, and hear the sizzle!
