7 Layer Dip Cups

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

I love 7 layer dip!  I remember as a child devouring it with Fritos whenever my mom made it for a get-together.  I really like the idea of grabbing a cup of dip to add to your plate instead of scooping off of a massive platter (which ends up looking like slop at the end of the party).  These dip cups were very easy to throw together and I was able to do them a day or two in advance and keep them in the refrigerator.  I used standard size clear acrylic punch cups and used a large piping tip to make layering the cups quick and easy.  Here's how it all went together...

  • Author: Jennifer Locklin
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 10 -12 1x
  • Category: Appetizer
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans Fritos bean dip
  • 2 cartons guacamole dip (or fresh guacamole)
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese (grated)
  • 1 cup tomatoes (diced)
  • 1 cup green onions (sliced)
  • 1 (2.5-ounce) can sliced black olives (drained)

Instructions

Prepare the Sour Cream Layer

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, taco seasoning mix, and sour cream.
• Mix well until smooth and evenly blended. Set aside.

Assemble the Layers

  1. Using clear plastic cups or a large serving platter, spread each layer in the following order:
 – Bean dip
 – Guacamole
 – Sour cream mixture
 – Grated cheddar cheese
 – Diced tomatoes
 – Sliced green onions
 – Sliced black olives

Serve

  1. Serve immediately or chill until ready to serve.
• Accompany with tortilla chips or Fritos Scoops for dipping.

Notes

Substitutions:
• Replace Fritos bean dip with refried beans mixed with 2 tablespoons taco seasoning.
• Substitute light sour cream or Greek yogurt for a lighter version.
• Use Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend cheese instead of sharp cheddar.

Serving Suggestions and Pairings:
• Serve as an appetizer at parties, potlucks, or game-day gatherings.
• Pair with Mexican-inspired dishes such as enchiladas, tacos, or fajitas.
• Add a spoonful of salsa or pico de gallo on top for extra flavor.
• For a family-style option, spread the layers on a large serving platter instead of individual cups and serve with a spoon for easy dipping.

Storage and Freezing:
• Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
• Do not freeze, as guacamole and sour cream layers may separate when thawed.
• For best texture, assemble just before serving.
