Valentines Cupcakes with a Twist

Valentine's Day is filled with all sorts of sweet treats, so this year I made some Valentine Swirl Cupcakes for friends and family.  I found this simple recipe over at Cooking with Sugar via Pinterest.  She makes beautiful swirl bundt cakes which would have worked here as well, but I needed a lot of individual cakes to give away, so I went with cupcakes.

The cool thing about this recipe is that you mix up regular cake mix and add dye of different colors to make your swirl.  There's no stirring or swirling by hand, just pour cake batter in, one color right on top of the other.  The swirls make themselves!

After these baked and cooled, I iced them with a simple cream cheese frosting that I tinted pink, then topped everything off with some cute heart sprinkles.

Ice with desired frosting.
Bake according to package directions, then cool.
alternate tablespoonfuls of tinted cake batter into cups, do not stir.

Happy Valentine's Day!
