Substitutions

  • Roma tomatoes are a good choice because they contain less moisture, but any ripe, firm tomato will work.
  • Replace sweet onion with white onion for a sharper flavor.
  • If you prefer a milder salsa, use fewer jalapeños or substitute a poblano pepper.
  • If you do not use MSG, simply omit it or add a small pinch of additional kosher salt to taste.

Serving Suggestions and Pairings

  • Serve with tortilla chips as an appetizer.
  • Spoon over tacos, burritos, nachos, grilled chicken, steak, fish, or eggs.
  • Use as a topping for baked potatoes, burgers, or rice bowls.

Storage

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Stir before serving, as the vegetables will release liquid during storage.

Freezing

  • Freezing is not recommended. Fresh tomatoes become watery and lose their texture after thawing, making the salsa best enjoyed fresh or refrigerated.
