Instructions

Prepare the Baking Pan

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  • Grease a 15x10x1-inch baking pan with butter or nonstick spray.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.

Heat the Butter Mixture

  • Bring just to a boil, then remove from heat.

Incorporate the Wet Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, vanilla bean paste, and almond extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add this mixture to the flour-butter mixture, whisking constantly until fully incorporated.

Bake the Cake

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes before frosting.

Prepare the Frosting

  • In a large saucepan, combine the butter and milk over medium heat.
  • Bring just to a boil, then remove from heat.
  • Gradually stir in the confectioners’ sugar, vanilla bean paste, and almond extract until smooth.
  • Stir in the sliced almonds.

Frost the Cake

  • Spread the warm frosting evenly over the slightly cooled cake.
  • Let the cake sit until the frosting sets before slicing and serving.
