For the Cups

8 sourdough flatbread crackers
8 sesame breadsticks, broken in half
8 fresh blackberries
8 fresh strawberries
8 small rosemary sprigs, optional

Instructions

Prep

  • Wash the tomatoes, grapes, blackberries, strawberries, and basil. Dry everything thoroughly before assembling the cups.
  • Cut the cheeses into bite-size cubes if they are not already portioned.
  • Break each sesame breadstick in half so the pieces fit comfortably inside the serving cups.
  • Separate the ingredients into groups before assembling the skewers. This makes it easier to prepare all eight cups consistently.

Assemble the Skewers

Pepperoni Caprese Skewers

  • Arrange 5 pepperoni slices in a slightly overlapping row.
  • Fold the row of pepperoni in half lengthwise, then roll it into a compact flower shape.
  • Push a toothpick through the pepperoni to hold its shape.
  • Add a basil leaf, mozzarella pearl, and cherry tomato to complete each skewer.
  • Repeat until you have 8 pepperoni Caprese skewers.

Salami, Gouda, and Gherkin Skewers

  • Fold 2 salami slices into quarters for each serving.
  • Thread 1 dill gherkin and 1 smoked Gouda cube onto a wooden skewer.
  • Add the folded salami to the skewer.
  • Prepare 8 skewers in total.

Cheese and Dried Fruit Skewers

  • Thread 1 dried cherry onto each skewer.
  • Follow with 1 cheese cube, 1 dried apricot, and a second cheese cube.
  • Repeat to make 8 skewers.

Red and Green Grape Skewers

  • Thread 4 grapes onto each skewer, alternating red and green grapes.
  • Continue until you have prepared 8 grape skewers.

Assemble the Charcuterie Cups

  • Spoon 2 tablespoons of mixed nuts into each serving cup.
  • Tuck 1 sourdough cracker and 2 breadstick halves into each cup, positioning them upright along one side.
  • Add 1 pepperoni Caprese skewer, 1 salami and Gouda skewer, 1 cheese and dried fruit skewer, and 1 grape skewer to every cup.
  • Place 1 blackberry and 1 strawberry into the open spaces around the skewers.
  • Add a small rosemary sprig to each cup if using.

••Cover the completed cups and refrigerate until serving time.

Notes

Substitutions: Smoked cheddar, regular Gouda, or another firm cheese can replace the smoked Gouda. A firm Parmesan-style or aged cheddar cheese can be used in place of the Merlot-infused cheese. Small dill pickles can substitute for gherkins, and raspberries or blueberries work well in place of blackberries.

Crackers: Use any sturdy cracker that will remain crisp when placed upright in the cups. Thin breadsticks, pita crackers, or seeded crackers are also suitable.

Serving Suggestions: Serve the charcuterie cups chilled as an individual appetizer for baby showers, wedding showers, cocktail parties, game-day gatherings, holiday parties, or other events. They pair well with sparkling water, lemonade, iced tea, wine, or simple cocktails.

Make Ahead: The skewers can be assembled several hours ahead and refrigerated. For the best texture, consider adding the crackers and breadsticks closer to serving time so they remain crisp.

Storage: Cover the cups tightly and refrigerate at 40°F or below. For best quality, serve them within 24 hours. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and discard any cups that have remained at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

Freezing: Freezing assembled charcuterie cups is not recommended. Fresh fruit, mozzarella, herbs, pickles, and crackers can lose their intended texture after freezing and thawing.
